What does the PEDI ™ assess?
Capability is measured by the identification of functional skills for which the child has demonstrated mastery and competence. Item selection for this scale was directed by the criterion of identification of meaningful functional units within complex functional activities. Functional performance is measured by the level of caregiver assistance needed to accomplish major functional activities such as eating or outdoor locomotion. A modifications scale provides a measure of environmental modifications and equipment used by the child in routine daily activities.Top | #1582 | last reviewed 2005-01-18
What type of scores does the computer program generate?
You can use the manual and paper version to get both scaled scores and normative scores. The computer program also provides item maps, which groups the items grouped according to level of difficulty. This is helpful when showing parents their child's progress because it emphasizes the improvements that the child has made over the course of the year. It provides a more complete profile than normative scores, which indicate how delayed the child is in comparison his/her peers.Top | #1631 | last reviewed 2005-01-18
How is the PEDI™ scored?
The PEDI™ has been standardized on a normative sample of children, which enables the clinician or educator to calculate normative standard scores and scaled performance scores. Scores are recorded in a booklet, which also contains a summary score sheet that can be used to construct a profile of the child's performance across the different domains and scales. A software program for data entry, scoring, and generation of individual summary profiles is also available for IBM-compatible computers. The PEDI™ has also been incorporated into the Rehabilitation Effectiveness Outcome Management System (OMS). The Center for Rehabilitation Effectiveness at Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Science, Boston University administers the Rehabilitation Effectiveness Outcome Management System and the PEDI™ outcome indices.Top | #1583 | last reviewed 2005-01-18
